kde 4 is cool

By | 12th February 2008

I tried out kde 4 yesterday to my surprise it got installed in my home system, and do you know what it worked yes it worked with out much configuration. I heard of kde 4 a lot last month when it was released and thought of installing it on my system, well it was a dream come true. The reason why i am so surprised is that my system’s configuration is not that good for graphics not good even for creating some cartoon caricatures with inkscape. It has a via onboard display card, it has a ram of 256MB with athlon 2400+ (2GHz approx) processor this system is 4+ years old. so my journey to kde 4 has begun and i configured the sources from were i need to get this new shiny killer desktop (well to know more about how to install kde 4 please refer to this manual http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde4.html). What i am going write about in this section is on few of the tricks and app’s for future reference.

One of the cool apps is a document viewer called okular. Well i just installed it and there is a lot to explore in it. but on the first appearance i found that its good, though unlike evince its a bit heavy with the app divided into 3 columns.

The other one is gwenview which i have to install and test. This is an image viewer which can be compared to that of eog (Eye Of Gnome) of gnome.
